Why Mesoblast Shares (ASX MSB) Is A Speculative Stock To Buy

by Henry Fung - Partner Managing Director Henry Fung - Partner Managing Director No Comments

Mesoblast Limited (ASX MSB; Nasdaq MESO) is a Melbourne-based leading global stem cell company focusing on R&D in regenerative cellular medicines. The Mesoblast share price has been falling since 2011 but has since stabilised in the $1.20 to $2.00 range in the past two years.

Despite the company burning piles of cash each year, investors are optimistic about the prospects of MSB and have allowed the company to access fresh financing in support of its R&D activities. As a result, revenue increased to US$14.9 million from US$0.6 million in the previous corresponding period, thanks to earnings from two licenses marketing Mesoblast products in Japan and Europe.

However, greater regulation among different countries, ethical issues, the potential for more capital rising due to multiple ongoing costly clinical trials and uncertainty in commercialising their products posts risks to the company. Read more

by Henry Fung - Partner Managing Director Henry Fung - Partner Managing Director No Comments

Webjet shares (ASX WEB) is a relatively strong performer compared to its peers Flight Centre Group Limited (ASX FLT) and Helloworld Travel Limited (HLO) thanks to its focus on a global online business.

As a result, at the end of FY17, Webjet’s B2B division has grown more than 6 times the underlying market with WebBeds becoming the second largest player in the global B2B market.

Its B2C division has also seen a growth of 50.3% in its EBITDA with bookings hitting 1.85 million a year, up 43.6%.

However, high capital expenditure to an aggressive acquisition plan this year could weaken the company’s financial position. Additionally, an economic downturn could post threats to Webjet due to the high correlation between the travel industry, economic conditions and foreign exchange. Read more

Why The Dominos Pizza Share Price (ASX DMP) Is A Buy

by Henry Fung - Partner Managing Director Henry Fung - Partner Managing Director No Comments

Dominos Pizza Enterprises Ltd (ASX DMP) is the largest pizza restaurant chain in Australia in terms of both network store numbers and network sales. The Dominos share price has fallen in the past few years and could present an opportunity to buy the stock.

Dominos has a company structure of franchising, which allows the brand to accelerate expansion over wide areas with fewer capital requirements. As a result, it has increased its number of stores from 1,580 to 2,193 stores over a 2-year period between 2016-2018, with 70 new stores added to the network in the first half year of 2018 and operating in three markets and seven countries.

However, the expansion poses threats to the brand itself as all franchises trade under the same brand name. Problems related to any franchise could potentially affect Dominos brand equity negatively as a whole and thus damage other franchisees as a result. Read more
